An excursion to nowhere

I not only loved to drive but loved to be driven as well. Plenty of contemplation could be done during a particularly long and tiresome roadtrip. Reflections about God, one's existence, economic philosophy, the fate of mankind, lost and found loves, new and old friendships, or thoughts about human civilizations in general. As the greenness of vegetations started to materialize into masses of blurring and whizzing vignettes I pretended it was an interesting excursion to nowhere. It was better to travel hopefully than to arrive..

This post makes me think about Emilio Salgari, an Italian writer of XIX century. While the excursion to nowhere is a way to travel into your thoughts, he created from his living room in Turin: he visited Malaysia, he described it, he told the stories of its people, but he never saw it.
He traveled without moving, and you moved without travel..
Good post ;)

Emilio Salgari was a dreamer of his dreams and a rider of his tides. And in his awakenings, he was still in a deeper dreams that sailed full sets to Malaysia. For me to stay was to freeze and crystallize and be bound in the mould. Yet, my voice could not carry the tongue and lips that gave Salgari's voice its wings to move without travelling...
